Air filters are consumables that can be inspected, temporarily cleaned, and reused. Reasonable cleaning can extend their service life and save maintenance costs. However, 90% of car owners use the wrong cleaning method, which not only fails to clean impurities but also directly damages the filter structure, leading to filtration failure and engine damage. Many people are accustomed to using high-pressure air guns for rapid blowing, reverse blowing, water washing and soaking, and long-term reuse, all of which can cause irreversible damage to the filter element. Provide a detailed explanation of the correct cleaning process and high-frequency misconceptions to help car owners maintain and avoid risks in a scientific manner.

Firstly, clarify the core principle: "Dry paper air filters can only be blown forward under low pressure, and are strictly prohibited from being washed, soaked, blown backward under high pressure, or wiped clean. Paper and composite fiber dry filter cartridges will become damp, agglomerate, and deform when exposed to water, completely losing their filtering ability. After washing and drying, they may appear intact, but in reality, the pores are blocked, resistance increases, and filtration accuracy fails, making them unusable; Wiping with wet sponge or cloth can directly scratch the fibers of the filter material, causing powder to fall off and damage, resulting in fine impurities penetrating the filter element and losing its protective effect, which is a major taboo in maintenance. Only wet oil bath filters support washing, cleaning, and reuse, while dry filters are absolutely prohibited from getting wet.

The standardized and correct cleaning process for dry air filters is simple, safe, effective, and non-destructive.
The first step is to remove the air filter assembly, gently tap the side of the filter element, shake off loose floating dust and large particles on the surface, and avoid deep dust blocking the pores;
Step 2: Use a low-pressure air gun (air pressure ≤ 0.3MPa) to blow from the inside of the filter element * * intake to the outside * * in a positive direction, cleaning the impurities inside the pores along the intake direction and gradually cleaning each area;
Step three, after the blowing is completed, visually inspect the filter material for any damage, knots, moisture deformation, or large-scale dust accumulation;
Step four, check that the sealing ring is intact and the shell is clean. Reinstall and tighten it in place to ensure a tight seal and no air leaks or gaps.
The cleaned filter element can only be temporarily reused and must be forcibly replaced when the replacement cycle is reached.

The four deadly high-frequency misconceptions are the easiest maintenance traps for car owners to fall into.
Firstly, when the high-pressure air gun blows in the opposite direction, the high-pressure airflow will impact the micropores of the large filter material, tear the fiber structure, and damage the filtration accuracy, causing subsequent fine sand and dust to directly penetrate the filter element, resulting in chronic engine wear;
Secondly, if the expired filter element is repeatedly cleaned and reused, the dust holding capacity of the filter element will become saturated, and deep impurities cannot be blown away. The pore blockage is irreversible, and repeated cleaning will only exacerbate the aging and failure of the filter material;
Thirdly, if the filter element is forcibly cleaned and reused due to moisture, compaction, or blackening, the dust will become damp, adhere, and solidify, making it impossible to blow it clean. Continuing to use it will result in severe air intake shortage;
Fourthly, omitting the cleaning of the outer shell and only cleaning the filter element without cleaning the dust inside the air filter box, the dust will adsorb again after installation, quickly causing the filter element to clog.

Clearly define the red line for cleaning and reusing filter cartridges to prevent their use with defects. If the filter element is damaged, loses powder, forms a chalkboard knot, becomes damp and deformed, the sealing ring ages and cracks, or there is a large area of oil stains adhering to it, it does not need to be cleaned and can be replaced directly, with no value for repair or reuse. Cleaning is only suitable for dry, slightly dusty, and undamaged filter elements, and the next maintenance cycle should be shortened after a single cleaning. It is not allowed to clean repeatedly. Mastering scientific cleaning methods and avoiding maintenance misconceptions can not only reasonably save maintenance costs, but also thoroughly ensure the filtering performance of the filter element, and comprehensively protect the engine.
