The oil filter not only needs to have the ability to remove harmful impurities, but also as a component of the lubrication system, it should be matched with the main engine. We have specified some performance indicators for the oil filter.

1. The flow resistance characteristic is the pressure difference generated before and after the filter at the rated flow rate, which is also the pressure loss. The smaller the value, the better the filter's passability. The rated flow rate is generally taken as follows: if the user provides the design flow rate of the oil pump or the measured flow rate of the new oil pump, the filter flow rate can be taken as 55% of the oil pump flow rate value. Some users also provide filter designers with the design flow rate of the main oil passage of internal combustion engines. In this case, the flow rate of the filter should be set at 1.6 or 2.0 times the design flow rate of the main oil passage. This is because with the normal wear and tear of the internal combustion engine, the flow rate of the main oil passage will correspondingly increase to maintain normal oil pressure. Generally, full flow filters are required to pass through the rated flow. In addition, the filter must be able to filter out a certain number of impurity particles of a certain size, and the impurities should be tested using aluminum oxide test ash with a relative density of 3.9.

2. Lifetime characteristics
The duration of the process from the beginning of use to blockage of a new filter element. There are many factors that affect the service life, mainly the design and material of the filter, which should maintain the smoothness of the oil and achieve the effect of filtering small impurities. We can evaluate the filter under certain external conditions through experimental methods, analyze the experimental results through a large number of experiments, and select a suitable structure to meet the requirements under the normal operating conditions of the engine. Achieve matching flow rate, low resistance, high filtration efficiency, and long service life. However, various indicators are mutually restrictive. For example, the greater the flow rate, the greater the resistance. The higher the filtration efficiency, the smaller the pore size of the filter element, the greater the resistance, and the shorter the service life.
