
The hydraulic systems of construction machinery and commercial vehicles are equipped with three core hydraulic filtration devices, namely Suction hydraulic filter, return hydraulic filter, and pilot filter. The installation position, filtration accuracy, flow parameters, protection focus, and adaptation conditions of the three types of filter elements are different, forming a three-level filtration protection system for the hydraulic system. Many maintenance personnel only replace the return oil filter element, neglecting the maintenance of the suction oil and pilot filter element, resulting in local oil circuit pollution, precision component wear, and hidden hydraulic failures. Accurately distinguishing the functional differences and adaptation scenarios of the three types of filters is the core key to the refined maintenance of hydraulic systems.
The return oil filter is the main filtering core of the hydraulic system, with the widest application and highest replacement frequency, and is responsible for the main purification task of the entire hydraulic oil. The return oil filter element is installed at the end of the hydraulic system return oil pipeline. All hydraulic oil that has passed through the cylinder, valve group, and pump body after circulation is filtered by the return oil filter element and flows back to the oil tank, belonging to full flow and large circulation filtration. It has moderate filtration accuracy, large pollutant holding capacity, and strong circulation. The core interception system generates a large amount of metal debris, oil sludge, and gum impurities during operation, continuously purifying the hydraulic oil of the whole machine and preventing impurities from accumulating and contaminating the oil tank and oil circuit. Suitable for all hydraulic equipment such as excavators, loaders, cranes, dump trucks, etc., it is the basic purification barrier of the hydraulic system, and can be replaced after about 1000 hours of normal working conditions.
The suction filter is installed at the front end of the hydraulic pump suction port, directly protecting the core precision components of the hydraulic pump and belonging to the first protective barrier. The suction filter element is designed with a large flow rate and low resistance to avoid suction and cavitation problems. It mainly intercepts large particles of impurities, oil stains, clumps, and pipeline debris in the oil tank, preventing hard large particles from directly entering the hydraulic pump and wearing out the pump body gears and distribution plate. Its filtration accuracy is lower than that of the return oil filter element, prioritizing the smooth flow of the oil circuit and stable oil suction of the pump body to prevent pump body cavitation, abnormal noise, and pressure attenuation faults. The suction filter element is immersed in hydraulic oil for a long time, requiring high corrosion resistance. It is commonly used in large construction machinery and heavy-duty hydraulic equipment, with a longer maintenance cycle and a regular 2000 hour inspection and replacement.
The pilot filter is a precision oil circuit exclusive protective accessory designed specifically for the pilot control oil circuit, with the highest protection accuracy. The pilot system is responsible for controlling the opening and closing of the multi way valve, as well as the operation control. The oil clearance is extremely small, and strict requirements are placed on the cleanliness of the oil. Fine impurities can cause valve core jamming, control failure, and action deviation. The filtration accuracy of the pilot filter element can reach 3-5 microns, far exceeding that of the return and suction filter elements. It is specifically designed to intercept micron level fine suspended impurities, accurately protecting the pilot valve core, pressure sensor, and precision control valve. The filter element has a small flow rate, high accuracy, limited pollutant holding capacity, and faster clogging speed. It needs to shorten the maintenance cycle and is a precision maintenance point that is easily overlooked, with a regular inspection and replacement time of 500-800 hours.
Three types of filter elements work together to build a complete hydraulic filtration system, and none of them are indispensable. The return oil filter is responsible for overall oil purification, the suction oil filter is responsible for pump body foundation protection, and the pilot filter is responsible for precision control system protection. The precision of the three gradually increases and the protection points are subdivided layer by layer. Daily maintenance should eliminate the misconception of "only replacing the oil filter element", and maintain three types of filter elements according to different working conditions. The replacement cycle of three types of filter elements should be shortened synchronously under harsh dust and humid working conditions, comprehensively avoiding hydraulic pump wear, valve group jamming, control failure and other faults, and ensuring accurate, stable and efficient operation of the hydraulic system.
