Diesel filter blockage is the most common oil circuit failure in diesel engines. Whether it is road transport vehicles, construction machinery, or agricultural equipment, factors such as expired filter cartridges, poor oil quality, harsh environments, and low-temperature wax deposition can all cause the pores of the filter material to be blocked by impurities, gum, and wax crystals, resulting in poor oil supply and insufficient pressure in the oil circuit. Most users are unable to accurately identify blockage faults, which are often confused with engine carbon deposits and circuit faults, leading to maintenance errors and treating symptoms rather than the root cause. Clearly identifying typical symptoms, core causes, and graded treatment plans can quickly and accurately solve faults.

Diesel filter blockage has a highly recognizable set of typical fault symptoms, which can be visually judged. When there is a slight blockage, the most obvious manifestation is the vehicle's weak acceleration, slow throttle response, weak power under heavy load and climbing conditions, accompanied by a slight increase in fuel consumption, and no obvious abnormalities in idle state, which is easily overlooked by users. When there is moderate blockage, the symptoms of the malfunction are fully prominent, such as engine idle shaking, unstable speed, occasional idle stalling, increased difficulty in cold starting, and the need for multiple ignitions to start. The exhaust is accompanied by slight black smoke and odor, and fuel consumption increases by 10% -20%. When there is severe blockage, the oil supply to the oil circuit is basically interrupted, the equipment cannot be started, and it frequently stalls during driving, making it impossible to operate normally and directly causing the equipment to shut down.

The core causes of filter blockage are mainly divided into four categories, covering all scenarios of use. Firstly, the quality of the oil products does not meet the standards, and non-standard low-quality diesel and small workshop bulk oil are added. The content of sediment, gum, asphalt, and impurities in the oil products seriously exceeds the standard, and the accumulation and blockage of filter material pores in a short period of time are the main causes of blockage. Secondly, the filter element has exceeded its expiration date and has not been replaced according to the operating cycle. The filter material has reached saturation in terms of pollutant capacity, and the deep pores have been completely blocked by impurities, rendering the filtration and circulation functions completely ineffective. Thirdly, the working environment is harsh. In mines, construction sites, dusty roads, and farmland operations, a large amount of dust and straw debris mix into diesel through the fuel tank vent, accelerating filter clogging. Fourthly, low-temperature wax deposition and blockage, inconsistent oil grades in winter, wax crystal solidification and blockage of filter materials, resulting in interruption of oil circulation.

For different degrees of blockage, a graded maintenance plan should be adopted to balance efficiency and cost. When there is slight blockage and no obvious symptoms of malfunction, the surface dust of the filter element can be cleaned, the accumulated water can be completely discharged, and temporary use can be resumed. It is recommended to make an appointment to replace the new filter element as soon as possible to avoid worsening the malfunction. When symptoms such as moderate blockage, shaking, and insufficient power occur, it is necessary to directly replace the entire set of coarse and fine filter elements, while cleaning the sediment impurities at the bottom of the fuel tank and unclogging the oil pipeline to prevent secondary blockage caused by residual impurities. When there is severe blockage and the equipment cannot be started, after replacing the filter element, the air in the oil circuit must be completely emptied, and the oil pressure must be manually pumped to stabilize the oil circuit pressure. After testing the smooth oil supply, try running again to avoid secondary faults caused by air resistance.

Filter clogging can be prevented in advance. By regularly adding regular national standard diesel, replacing the filter element according to the working cycle, regularly draining, and adapting to low-temperature oil products in winter, more than 90% of clogging faults can be eliminated from the root cause. Early maintenance is far more efficient and economical than fault repair, which can effectively ensure equipment attendance and reduce operation and maintenance costs.
